There have been ten known murders in the house, plus at least one suicide. The most frequent ghostly visitor is named as Chloe. Chloe was a local slave who was hung for murdering two young girls. The story is told that General Bradford’s son-in-law (Clarke) decided to cut off the black woman’s ear for eaves dropping into conversations. Her revenge was too mix poison into the 2 children’s birthday cake which resulting in a painful death. The two children’s ghosts have been reported to have been seen many times playing on the porch of the building. Many other ghosts include lowly shadowy type figures, most likely to have been part of the slave trade, have been seen in this area of the building, possibly still reporting for their duties. Chloe herself was was soon found out and quickly hung on site for her crime.
